Hibiscus sabdariffa L.
Guinea sorb or Bissap, Roselle or Karkade, Hibiscus is a herb of the family Malvaceae that grows in tropics. It is found in Africa, Asia and China. In Laos we grow a local variety as well as hybrids. Planted in May it begins to develop its calyxes when the days shorten in October which will be harvested in December. Fresh leaves are locally appreciated for dishes in many sauces.
